DANGERS OF NOT LIVING YOUR PURPOSE
Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 12:8 (KJV)
Firstly, meaning in life is a function of purpose. You will not be able to wrap your mind around existence if you fail to discover your purpose. Can you imagine being on a journey that has no destination and objective. A wise man had said that if you don’t know where you are going, everywhere will look like it. Meaninglessness is a function of purposelessness. People are growing up, going to school, getting a job or running a business and living life without defining why. “Why am I living?” Are you living just to get degrees, get the best paying jobs, buy the best car and house and then continue like that? There is nothing more vain like living without purpose. It makes you live for things and as long as you live for things, you will live in mirage.
Secondly, living without purpose is living without focus. If you lack focus, growth is hampered. Focus is the ability to concentrate attention and energy on something. Focus is a function of purpose. Without purpose, focus is non-existent. Proverbs 4.25 (NASB) says, ‘Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.’ Purpose shows you the reason you are alive, which helps you to focus on that. If you are going nowhere, or where you are going is a function of competition, then you would be looking here and there. Anything can call your attention and you would be there. Focus is unachievable any other way. With a purpose, you are guided to choose a career path, people around you, relationships, friends, living space and even your daily movements accordingly. The end goal in mind is consistent.
Thirdly, real success is unachievable without purpose. Success is coming to satisfaction and peace with your maker, yourself and your environment. You cannot know satisfaction without purpose. Assuming your purpose is to go to Enugu but you never discovered that you are going to Enugu. However, being on the road, you head to Lagos, on a high speed, you may succeed in getting to Lagos, but you are not successful in the real sense because before your maker, you are supposed to be in Enugu. So, without even knowing what your life’s purpose is, no matter how hard you work, it will be useless.
Fourthly, a life without purpose not only impact your mental health, it also affects your physical well-being too. Purpose is at the root of everything that is operating seamlessly. Without purpose there will be friction in almost everything. Relationships will fall apart, career will fall apart. The emotional strain on the mind will automatically translate to your physical body. Continuous stress is likely to cause hair loss, acne, weight loss, weight gain, etc.
For space here, let’s conclude by saying that you cannot afford a life without purpose. Don’t even contemplate it for a second. Selah!
REMEMBER: Life without purpose is dangerous.
CONFESSION: I know who I am. I know what I am born to do. My eyes is firmly fixed on fulfilling Yahweh’s desire for my life. I shall not fail. Glory be Yahweh!
